Short answer
Most septic professionals and public health agencies consider tank additives like Rid-X unnecessary for a properly maintained system. A tank pumped on schedule already contains the bacteria it needs to function. Additives are not a substitute for regular pumping and won't prevent drain field failure.
Septic tanks naturally develop the bacterial populations needed to break down waste, and additives don't meaningfully change that process in a system that's pumped on a normal schedule. Some research has raised concern that certain additive ingredients can actually make solids more likely to escape into the drain field, which is the opposite of what you want. The one factor proven to extend a septic system's life is straightforward: pump on schedule, avoid flushing anything other than human waste and toilet paper, and keep heavy vehicles and structures off the drain field. Spending on an additive instead of on-schedule pumping is generally not a good trade.
